Changes to job keeper and insolvency laws

The changes are based on United States’ Chapter 11 laws which allow businesses with liabilities of less than $1 million to stay in charge while they deal with their debts.

The overhaul comes amid dire predictions a ‘wave’ of small businesses will go under as they lose access to government-funded COVID-19 support packages. Millions of staff and their employers are due to lose access to the $101 billion JobKeeper taxpayer-funded scheme.

The JobKeeper wage subsidy will drop from $1500 per fortnight to $1200 for full-time workers, and $750 per fortnight for part-time workers, from September 28.
